Going To The Opera Etiquette

It did take us a while to finally accept that the world became more digital and the new normal is On screen instead of Off screen.

As most of the courses we provide in Modern Etiquette Consultancy are One-to-One sessions, workshops and programs where we interact while learning.

Finally we took the plunge and joined couple of webinars from few of the great industry leaders : Tony Robbins, Lisa Nichols, Raise Up World, John Maxwell Books discussions.

We have started as well conducting online Etiquette courses for corporates and One-to-One Having Manners Is The New Cool sessions.

While familiarizing ourself with The Zoom World I gathered few tricks and guidelines that we could all use.

Ahead of time *Dress for the job you have, not for the pandemic. Do not wear pajamas. -Stage your video area( please be mindful of your view keep it neutral even if you have the best golf course view in town 😉

- Be aware of time of day differences. - Know who the participants will be. - Use the mute button with extreme care. - Set your “Do Not Disturb” button. - Don’t take other calls just before the video call.

During the webinar .

- Control background noises. -Please do not switch off the the video , it is quite rude to speak to a black screen. - Check that everyone can hear each other. - Have each person introduce him/herself. - Be mindful of the time frame. .

- To make a comment: -Wait for the speaker to finish a thought or sentence. -“Excuse me, this is Samira. I’d like to ask Bob…” -Or catch the eye of your team leader or the host and indicate you want to make a point. - Announce five or ten minutes before end time that the call will end soon. - Thank all the participants for joining at the end.

Many of you who personally know me are aware that one of my favorite hobbies is attending Concertos & Operas. I enjoy all the experience, from the day I purchase the ticket to the evening of the event where I start getting ready at home until i arrive and take my seat.

It is my way to transport myself to a magical place where I and the performers only exist. Tears start pouring, emotions go up and the applause enchanted. Brava, Bravo,Bravi 👏👏👏 My favorite operas :

La boheme, Puccini

Carmen, Georges Bizet

The Magic Flute, Mozart

Don Giovanni*, Mozart

The Marriage of Figaro*, Mozart

The Barber of Seville, Gioacchino Rossini

Madama Butterfly, Puccini

Tosca, Puccini

Turandot, Puccini

Rigoletto, Verdi

La Traviata, Giuseppe Verdi

Cosi fan tutte, Mozart

Aida, Verdi

Falstaff, Verdi

L'elisir d'amore, Donizetti

Il Trovatore, Verdi

Otello, Verdi

Pirates of Penzance, Sullivan, Aruthur

Romeo & Juliet, Gounod

Porgy & Bess, Gershwin

*Considered to be one of the greatest operas ever written.
